Working Together

My work focuses on supporting families to create the conditions in which children’s curiosity, confidence and love of learning can flourish.

While the child is always at the centre of this work, the process happens in consultation with parents or carers. Together we reflect on the child’s needs, the learning environment around them, and the small changes that can help learning feel more natural, joyful and sustainable.

Who This Work Is For

Families come to this work for different reasons, but they are usually connected by a shared hope: that learning can feel meaningful, joyful and alive for their child.

Some families are beginning their home education journey and want to create a learning environment that supports their child’s development in a thoughtful and holistic way. They want to ensure that curiosity, play and intrinsic motivation remain at the centre of learning as their child grows.

Other families arrive after more difficult experiences. Their child may have become anxious, overwhelmed or disengaged from learning following time in school or other challenging situations. They may be seeking a way to help their child recover confidence, rediscover curiosity and feel safe engaging with learning again.

Many of the families I work with are also supporting neurodiverse children or children with additional needs, and are looking for approaches that better respect their child’s individual way of learning.

Families usually come to this work in one of two situations.

The Learning Foundations Pathway

This pathway is for families who are thinking about or designing their child’s home learning environment and want to ensure it meets their child’s holistic needs while nurturing a lifelong love of learning. You may be starting your homeschooling journey and want to set up an environment where curiosity, creativity, and intrinsic motivation can flourish. The focus is on creating a space where your child can learn and grow in a way that feels natural, joyful, and aligned with their developmental needs — now and in the future.

This pathway is also ideal for parents who want to ensure their child’s learning experience is holistic, balancing their intellectual, emotional, and social development. You may be looking for guidance on how to structure the learning experience without the pressure of performance or external validation, ensuring that curiosity remains at the heart of everything they do.

    • Parents who are beginning their homeschooling journey and want to create a supportive, engaging environment that nurtures curiosity and a love of learning.

    • Families seeking to design a learning environment that promotes both academic growth and emotional well-being, without overwhelming their child.

    • Parents who want to balance structure and flexibility, ensuring their child remains engaged and excited about learning in a way that feels playful and non-pressured.

The Learning Recovery Pathway

For families with children who have experienced burnout, disengagement, or challenges due to past educational experiences, the Learning Recovery Pathwayfocuses on restoring joyand engagementwith learning. This pathway is especially beneficial for neurodiverse childrenand those with Special Educational Needs (SEN), who may have faced difficulties in school that led to anxiety, frustration, or a sense of disconnection from learning.

Your child may have lost their sense of joy and curiosity due to past negative experiences, and our goal is to help them rediscover their spark. Through this process, we focus on rebuilding confidence, reintroducing play, and creating an environment where your child feels supported, safe, and empowered to learn at their own pace.

In this pathway, we work together to help your child recover their joy in learning — moving beyond traditional educational pressures to find excitement, creativity, and meaning in their learning experiences. With the right support, children who have struggled can reconnect with their inherent curiosity and self-expression, leading to a renewed love of learning and life.

    • Families with neurodiverse children (e.g., autism, ADHD, dyslexia) who have struggled with traditional school systems and need support to reconnect with learning.

    • Children who have experienced burnout or emotional distress in school and are struggling to re-engage with learning at home.

    • Families with children who have SEN and need a more nurturing and individualised approach to learning that meets their unique needs.

    • Parents whose children have lost their spark for learning and need support rediscovering their joy and curiosity.

What the Process Involves

We work together over a 12–16 week consultation process, meeting for six structured sessions.

During this time we explore your child’s experience of learning and identify the conditions that will best support their development. This may involve reflecting on several important areas of a child’s learning life, including:

Feeling safe and regulated so that learning does not feel overwhelming
Developing a positive sense of self as a learner
Experiencing autonomy and meaningful challenge in learning
Creating a supportive learning environment within the family

Between sessions, parents are often encouraged to observe small shifts, try new approaches, and reflect on what is helping their child engage more comfortably with learning.

Where helpful, a structured observation of the child (live or recorded) may also be included to deepen understanding of how learning is unfolding.
